Windows (most flavours) is not the only cause of usbser.sys being replaced. there is a version from adafruit. another from arduino.org and a few more from other usb devices all of which can change out or re-direct to thier own copy.. Reinstall arduino, and install the 4 unsigned drivers during that reboot mode - and it should work. the method above didn't work for me as it didn't handle the bootloader drivers. meaning it would work if you had a third-party programmer attached.. But when i plug the nano in to xp sp2 pc via usb, it finds new hardware but wont install the drivers. i cant find these usb 2.0-serial drivers anywhere. iv tried re-installing the ftdi drivers from arduino site but the comm port still does not show up in the ide and i still have usb 2.0-serial flagged up in device manager..
With the arduino usb 2 serial micro get the 5 volt tx and rx lines from a computer usb port that you can connect straight to the arduino mini 05 or to other microcontrollers for programming or data communication..
